Mpower Pictures, LLC is a Santa Monica-based film and television company specializing in developing, financing, producing, marketing and distributing entertainment worldwide. Created by producer Stephen McEveety, the company leverages both his ability to reach mainstream audiences across the country and his experience producing highly profitable films such as The Passion of the Christ, We Were Soldiers, Braveheart and What Women Want.
Mpower Pictures launched in January 2007 with its first film Bella, which went on to take home the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival. An American Carol was released in 2008 and stars Kelsey Grammer, Leslie Nielsen, Dennis Hopper, James Woods and Jon Voight. The Stoning of Soraya M., released in 2009, stars Academy-Award Nominated Actress Shohreh Aghdashloo, Jim Caviezel and Mozhan Marnó as Soraya. The film received a number of awards and recognitions including the Movieguide Faith & Freedom Award, the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Foreign Picture, and the Los Angeles Film Festival Audience Award for Best Feature, as well as Cinema for Peace’s Award for Justice. Mpower most recently produced and released the 2010 live-action family film Snowmen, which stars Ray Liotta and Christopher Lloyd and is winner of the Audience Award, Runner-up at the Tribeca International Film Festival. Mpower has also released The Star of Bethlehem, a film that discovers the truth behind the astronomical events surrounding Jesus’ birth, and As We Forgive, a film that looks at the reconciliation taking place in Rwanda in the wake of the horrific genocide of 1994. As We Forgive won a number of awards, including the Student Academy Award for Best Documentary and Best in Show at the 2009 Grand Rapids Film Festival.
